The Pack A.D.
Funeral Mixtape
(Mint Records)
When The Pack A.D. ripped into their first notes at this year’s NXNE music festival, Toronto’s stinky Sneaky Dee’s instantly transformed into the back room of a southern American blues dive. Refreshingly authentic without a trace of hipster irony, the Vancouver duo, Becky Black and Maya Miller, will have to suffer through endless White Stripes references and stupid gender questions about ladies kicking rock’s ass to the curb. Recorded live off the floor, Funeral Mixtape represents their rough-and-tough energetic live sound well, with Black’s Joplin-esque growl shifting between emotions as she sings about love, death, Civil War and road warriors.
