
The Oxford Theatre (6408 Quinpool, 423-7488) is celebrating its 75th (the year of diamond and gold) with classics from 1930 to 2000.
In the great tradition of online voting, you get the power to choose which films will screen at one-day-only matinees. Click away and cross those fingers for your choice, the next round of voting begins July 30 for and August 19 screening of a film from the 1950s-1960s.
Last Sunday’s Casablanca screening was packed out, leaving more than a few seatless, so be warned, this is a popular series. Get there early or whistle dixie, mac. You know how to whistle, don’t you, Steve? (I know, I know, different Bogart movie)
Personally, we are pretty pleased that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel has finally ended its reign, being ousted after a whopping eight weeks with Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love, opening July 13. Seriously, we had no idea there were that many old people in Halifax. Good going, you guys.
Tickets for the anniversary series are $5, available in-theatre only. Each film screening will feature “The Iconic 75th Combo”, which includes one admission, small popcorn, and a bottle of water for $7.50.
