Given lead singer Inara George’s coy Hepburnish looks and their home on Blue Note Records, it would be easy to mistake this LA duo as an innocent sunshine jazz outfit. That is, until you hear their electronica cover of Peaches’ “Fucking Boyfriend.” A mix of Burt Bacharach, Brazilian beats and ’90s ambience, Feist fans will want to slip into pretty dresses, apply smokey makeup and head out for a night of Gitanes and Möet. The bee to George’s bird, Greg Kurstin, who’s collaborated with Beck and The Flaming Lips, has created a cashmere sound on this debut album that, when mixed with George’s harmonies, is absolutely mesmerizing.
