Just as BBC’s stellar Planet Earth DVD box set is the only reason to ditch your old clunker of a TV for a flat-screen, IMAX’s Under the Sea beats the fins off any other 3D offering out there (looking at you, Saw). Like a technicolour acid trip (this would be a decent watch stoned, not that we’re promoting it), the cameras go deep into the waters off southern Australia, New Guinea and other Indo-Pacific locales, infiltrating the world of incredibly bizarre sea creatures; so close that at one screening in Montreal, kids kept leaping up to touch sea lions. Smart without the eco-preach, the biggest revelation here is that Jim Carrey makes a smart, not smarmy, narrator.
