Toxic Holocaust in a spring meadow

Store up as much energy as you can in the next two hours, because this weekend is going to be bonkers for shows. Aside from the stupendous Obey Convention (see Laura Kenins’ feverish blogging and music feature), Portland, Oregon’s Toxic Holocaust are making a stop in Halifax, (Fri May 22 at Gus’ Pub with Hellacaust, Iron Giant and Terminator with an early show at the Pavilion). “Toxic Holocaust started in 1999 as a one-man recording project. Hellacaust released a split CD-R with them through Toronto’s Skull Fucking Metal Records in 2001,” says Graham Ferguson (Hellacaust). “The main man, Joel Grind, started getting session players to play on his albums and tour internationally. They signed with Relapse Records and released their newest album An Overdose of Death last year. The band now has a full line up consisting of Joel and two members of now broken-up Toronto thrash band Rammer. The show will rule.” Better believe it! Pair this with SNFU and Ab Irato (Sat May 23 at Gus’ Pub and Sun May 24 at the Pavilion with Envision, Get Wrecked and The Pinheads), and it’s likely most of your punk needs are covered. Wind down the week on Wednesday May 27 at Tribeca, with Medicine Hat’s wonderful Mt. Royal, Thomas/Richard, First Aid Kit and York Redoubt ($6, 10pm).

flossin' off on a natural charge bon voyage
