While New Brunswick-based sculptor Robin Peck prefers to work with plaster, he’s been experimenting with Plexiglass over the years. And while at first glance these transparent pieces seem simple and minimalist, observing them closely can do a number on your head. “I like the fact that it’s almost not there and it’s very difficult to see what I’m doing…it’s where perception and thought come together,” Peck says drawing comparison to The Emperor’s New Clothes. The piece, which taps into his continued interest in stairs, consists of three Plexiglass sheets spanning 24 feet in length and ranging in depths (the highest piece at a quarter on an inch) and will be displayed alongside a bronze, silver and gold maquette. Check it out, Peck says Shallow Podium will likely be his last piece using this material.
