The internet has been abuzz over Purity Ring ever since the electro-pop duo—consisting of GOBBLE GOBBLE’s Corin Roddick and Halifax’s Megan James— unleashed its frenetic first single in mp3 form. Ungirthed swims through spooky synths and spasmodic snare-heavy beats to become even more playful as James’ sprightly singing dives in, glittering and gleaming. The recent unveiling of the single as a seven-inch brings not only tactility to the project, but also the song “Lofticries,” a shadowy B-side that maintains the debut track’s glitchy and ethereal feel, but marches at a slower, more wistful rate. If the union of beauty and purity is rare, this release is particularly noteworthy.
