I’ve come to know and love Dartmouth Players, Bedford Players and Theatre Arts Guild, our local community theatres, but until very recently, I didn’t know there was a fourth to add to that group.
Prospect Players has been producing plays for several years in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church Hall in the lovely little village of Prospect, thirty minutes outside of Halifax. They’ve just finished a run of two plays: a drama called Shore Leave by Prospect resident Sean Kelly and the one-act comedy Rise and Shine, Summer Grove!. Shore Leave is the story of a German U-boater who comes ashore in a Nova Scotian coastal village and spends the day masquerading as an Upper Canadian Merchant Marine. It’s an affecting work that explores some tough questions about morality in the time of war. Rise and Shine… proved to be the perfect vehicle for showcasing some great comic talent with its story of two cut-throat news anchors who are unexpectedly replaced by two gormless stand-ins. You’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for next year’s offerings.
