So I nearly walked into this poster on a pole the other day. You’ve seen them, the yellow ones that read WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE, WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROCK AND ROLL.
Yes friends, these bright pages emblazoned with the wisdom of Billy Joel and Starship herald the return of Roomdoom, who bashed your brains in with art, dance-punk and noise last year before disbanding quickly and tragically when synth-man/singer Stacy Lloyd Brown moved to Edmonton. Brown is home for a visit and the group, which also features Adam O’Reilly on drums and Patrick Ryan on bass, took the chance to reunite, however briefly, with a show this Friday at the Khyber with Gobble Gobble followed by an appearance at Evolve.
O’Reilly says he is stoked to play Evolve—-“It will be fun and strange,” he writes in an email—and hang out with his friends in Gobble Gobble. “They’re like high-energy Animal Collective,” he says. After the mini-tour, the threesome will part again—-O’Reilly and Ryan will continue making new wave dreams in Duzheknew, and are set to play Sappyfest on July 30th, while Brown is moving to Vancouver to build an earthship for the summer.

One of these guys watched Paul McCartney from my deck but I’m not cool so I forget which one.
Editorializing aside, that is one of my favourite band photographs ever printed in the paper. (Aaron Mckenzie Fraser, naaaaatch.)
roomdoom & every other band these talented gentlemen play in are incredible.
Tara you are too nice. It was a fun shoot involving smoke machines, peg boards, and tribal makeup. I was excited to see the graffitied cover that they found and later posted as well.
