If Pop Levi changes his name or vanishes into obscurity, don’t be surprised—there’s something cadet-like about this dude, he claims an angel named Zeron helps him musically—but man, it’s dirty, soulful glam rock, picking up from when Ziggy played guitar. A mix of glam, blues, psychedelia, soul, garage and ’60s Britpop, Black Magick Party is a mash-up that works in a modern way. With a cocksure swagger and ’stache, the former Liverpudlian musical prodigy and Ladytron bassist melds Pete Townsend’s moptop and Beck’s charisma with the hot assuredness of Robert Plant and the White Stripes’ DIY attitude. Freaky, fun.
