Plastic Japanese Toys have to come to show that Montreal has its own share of hideous bands. Taking on the cheesy and downright vulgar aspects of new-wave power-pop of the early ’80s, PJT is mind-bogglingly inane. Opener “Intro” features screams that seem to be sampled from a porno and right then the listener knows they are hearing the audio version of stepping in a pile of dogshit. All kinds of vamp with no substance can work, but PJT lack the hooks and skills to make that happen. The single “Better Than Heroin” is catchy with a half-hearted jab at power-pop punk, but it certainly doesn’t warrant wasting money on a rancid dud like this. Though they maybe trying their hand at being a novelty though sleazy lyrics and a hokey image, it backfires. Just plain bad.
