The skating bug has bitten Haligonians and Canada Games fever is certainly brewing, so the timing for this exhibit couldn’t be better. Pier 21 welcomes a historical tribute to figure skating, speed skating and hockey, a travelling exhibit from the Canadian Museum of Civilization. In addition, Canada’s Immigration Museum has put together their own display. “It’s a glimpse into how newcomers have contributed to the sport,” says chief curator Tanya Bouchard. Check out Mike Cammalleri’s skates, read stories of famous immigrant skaters, learn about local skating history (Who knew there was a public rink where the Public Gardens are?) and read the stories of first time skaters. Here’s your chance to pay homage to a Canadian tradition and perhaps for non-skaters an inspiration to lace up. –Allison Saunders
