The two inner lanes surrounding the north Common are reserved for active transportation this Sunday. Rather than look at those streets as “closed” to traffic, the Halifax Cycling Coalition and the Halifax Regional Municipality are looking at those lanes as open…wide open. Cyclists, skate boarders, roller bladers, unicyclists and yeah, you pedestrians too, are invited to celebrate Bike Week and Active Transportation Month. Games, music, snacks, info and activities will fill the celebratory afternoon. Cheer on the kids’ bike race at 1:45pm or the annual fixed gear race that’ll end the party. Haven’t got a bike of your own, or curious about what cycle chic is? Test drive some stylin’ city bikes from the Halifax Cycle Gallery at the Open Street Party, too. We say, ride on.
Sunday May 29, Halifax North Common (and the inner lanes of Robie, Cogswell, North Park and Cunard streets) , 2-5pm, free, 802-3532

I was hoping to be presenting some of my works at Bike Week this year but had several scheduling conflicts. HOWEVER…for those who LOOOOVE bicycles, you may want to check out my eco-friendly bike art and motorcycle art. I pick up broken parts from local repair shops and clean them with a biodegradable cleanser, then make: tables, candelabras, picture frames, abstracts, lazy susans, and much much more.
