Having emerged from the shadow of Fall Out Boy, after the release of their breakthrough A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, Panic At The Disco’s flair for the dramatic quickly began to wear thin. The band’s latest release wipes away the eyeliner and excessive makeup to take on the modern music landscape fresh faced and renewed. Pretty. Odd is audibly more interesting, as PATD have taken a page from The Beatles’ playbook by incorporating live instrumentation, adding a much sunnier, pop-oriented sound. From the lead single “Nine In The Afternoon,” this new direction should quickly settle the angst and panic that was plaguing this disco.
