Halifax inspires the Y-Level COME FROM AWAY! show

Y-Level’s COME FROM AWAY! (April 8-May 7, opening April 8 at 6pm at the Eye Level Gallery, 2159 Gottingen) focuses on Canadian culture filtered through the wonderful city of Halifax.

“There are so many talented practicing artists who live here and so much great art being made, it can’t be ignored,” says Y-Level curator Natalie Boterman. The show features work from various artists who have either found their way here or are simply dreaming of the east: Lisa Folkerson, Sebastian Frye, Daniel Higham, Emma May, Brady Mackinnon, Antone Konst and Daina Tavenier. The show is said to explore Canadian identity, but no word on whether that involves lots of Strange Brew jokes. What you can expect is a diverse collection of art reflecting the Haligonian experience.

“While some of the artists took a literal approach, other abstracted it entirely,” says Boterman. “Their work is as individual as their experience in Halifax.”
