Preteen Weaponry
(Jagjaguwar/Brah Records)
It’s highly unlikely this Brooklyn band’s newest album, Preteen Weaponry>, is targeted at kids under the age of 13. A sprawling soundscape built around three tracks that merge into nearly 40 minutes of intense psychedelic muckraking, this album requires lots of patience—but it’s worth the effort. The first two tracks build slowly. Metronomic rhythms back noisy guitars and loads of other racket-making devices, while consistent bass patterns help establish an underlying form. The album closer picks up the pace a bit, with electronically treated drums dominating a droney jam. Extremely trippy, druggy and difficult, yet also highly rewarding.<br>
