No Age
Nouns
(Sub Pop)
Driving the hype surrounding No Age and their Sub Pop debut, Nouns, is the sweeping style of the band. On tracks “Errand Boy” and “Keechie,” the wall of sound and shoegaze tendencies create hypnotic, but sometimes boring sprawls. Songs like “Sleeper Hold” and “Here Should Be My Home” recall Sonic Youth or Husker Dü, contrasting these tendencies with pop-inspired arrangements and intelligible lyrics, creating simple, full-sounding rock songs. While No Age may seem like a noise band that reviewers love and many music listeners find too conceptual to bother with, Nouns is mostly an enjoyable listen.
