Shameless cash grab. A CD with the sole intent of satisfying a corporate desire to make even more money off the corpse of a dead icon. For those who already have last year’s awesome box set, With the Lights Out, this is redundant. Almost all the artwork and tracks on Sliver are from the box: outtakes, covers and demo or live versions that later became huger than huge. We say “almost” because even though the box was “supposed” to be everything leftover from the vault; somehow the leeches at Geffen have found three more unreleased demos. There’s no purpose here except for those who have the albums but have not yet justified the price of the box, for the completists who need everything and to make loads more cash for Geffen. Thanks a lot fellas.
