After several albums that were more produced (specifically her vocals, which were filtered through some pretty distracting reverb), it’s good to see Lucinda Williams lay it bare again. She writes with such a lyrical honesty, her voice deserves an equally intimate treatment. There’s no better example than “Plan To Marry,” a song so fragile it ranks as one of her most exquisite offerings. So to hear the band recorded as if they were captured after closing time or from her garage floor makes Little Honey a welcome surprise. These songs are rich in languid blues (“Tears Of Joy”) and rollicking country (“Real Love,” “Honey Bee”) hues.
