Loose Fur began as a side project for Jim O’Rourke, Jeff Tweedy and Glenn Kotche of Wilco to stretch out the avant-garde ideologies that began on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Their debut was an interesting gem of experimental post-rock styles. Born Again in the USA is more straightforward and poppier than the debut. It opens with the kind of killer roots-rocker that Tweedy hasn’t written since “Being There.” Still, the disc does have some of the sloppy loose charm of its predecessor. The record is rounded out with instrumentals; the noisy compositions that made O’Rourke famous aren’t to be found here. This is an album of brilliant indie rock.
