Are you feelin’ hot, hot, hot? You will once you hear Halifax’s newest six-piece Latin American music ensemble. “We’re four Cubans, one Colombian and one Mexican,” says Marcel Nazabal (flutes, gaita, vocals), boasting the only Latin American band in the city with all originally Latin American members. “We’re bringing 100 percent Latin flavour to Halifax,” he says. The band’s repertoire is most influenced by Central American songs from Cuba—no surprise given the four Cuban members—but Latin Drama explores all styles of South American music, including the salsa, the Dominican-style bachata and Colombian, Venezuelan and Argentinian rhythms. “There’s a large Latin community in Halifax and we’re excited for Haligonians to experience these styles of music, as well,” Nazabal says. An album of original tunes is coming soon, and you can feel the heat June 24 at the Maria Osende Flamenco Dance at the Marquee.

I doubt he said he’s “Columbian” … why can’t Canadians ever get this right? People from Colombia the country are Colombians. There is no “u” in Colombia the country or Colombians the people from the country. I have to believe it is because you guys grew up with British Columbia.
