Yes, everyone was right. The rap-rock equivalent of a Gulf oil spill , Kid Rock, is headlining the Halifax Rocks show on July 23. He will be joined by the Counting Crows, Tonic, Daughtry, Jimmy Swift Band and the Stanfields.
For reference, here’s a Daughtry:

- Macca judo chop!
In somewhat better news, Rich Aucoin joins the Black Eyed Peas/Weezer lineup on July 24, along with Hot Hot Heat (whatever happened to those guys?) and Chad Hatcher.
This article appears in May 27 – Jun 2, 2010.

Way to drive up Moncton’s tourism, Halifax.
WHOA … and I thought the Saturday lineup was lame! It looks like bloody Glastonberry compared to this train wreck.
hahahaha FAIL!
It’s too bad that people in this region feel so entitled that if the act isn’t something legendary, noses get out of joint. We’re 10-12 hours away from the largest city and yes, we have been fortunate with great acts in recent years. It’s just a show, some people will go and some won’t.
I don’t think it’s that people feel entitled to big acts…it’s the fact that they keep building up the hype before the announcement, as if it’s something huge, then they make an announcement that doesn’t live up to the hype.
I’m not even remotely a Kid Rock fan, and have zero interest in seeing any of the bands announced for either night really, but I have to admit I am getting tired of all the complaining that goes on in Halifax when these types of shows are announced. Certainly everyone is entitled to their opinion, but even The Coast itself comes out and complains about the bands, and I just think it is inappropriate for the The Coast to be doing that. Post the announcement of the show and then readers can decide for themselves. I think The Coast should remove itself from the complaining and should not be editorializing by comparing the acts to “a Gulf Oil Spill”.
so nayer, by extension u think the coast should never give an opinion on music, movies, art, what goes on in the city, our politicians behaviour and their decisions…
common – be real. the coast absolutely should call a spade a spade. they (the writers/editors) are not working just to promote the cities agenda.
Well, the JSB and Stanfields are good, but I can see them for $10 at the Seahorse. Good weekend to head out of town…
i feel for folks whose only green play area is the commons, but comparing skid rock(thanks ivan) to a huge oil spill is fucked
alison!
thanks for taking a strong opinion on this.
this is what the coast is for.
if you were a kid rock fan, well we’d expect you to also say so.
screw the haters.
and the oil spill comment.
totally ok for 3 reasons:
i) it publicizes the oil spill more
ii) kid rock is greasy
iii) although we all probably hate the oil spill a lot more than we hate kid rock, we ALSO hate kid rock
it wouldn’t matter to me IF it actually was an act that was worth seeing.. for 2 reasons
a) why would i spend that much money inside the commons where i can only hear the music anyway WHEN i could sit on a friend’s roof/citadel and enjoy myself more
b) I AM SICK AND TIRED OF OUR PUBLIC COMMONS BEING ANNEXED FOR THIS PRIVATE EVENT
a private event that is forced on the public..
there are 2 big events happening two weekends apart.. is the city going to take everything down and put it back up?
no.
1 month of our public greenspace gone.
we’ll get it back mid-august just in time for fall.
maybe the people in support of this, or indifferent to it are part of the crowd i see driving past me in their single occupancy vehicles, but i walk/bike everywhere and those like me pass through commons at least a couple times a week, and even more-so in the warmer month(s).
xoxoxo
grant
ps. if anyone knows peter kelly’s home address i have a really good front-lawn concert idea.
AND, may mighty zeus be merciful, but if it shall rain! not only will every single smuggled in coors light can be ground into the torn up grass, BUT peter kelly is going to give everyone that paid for the rain-insurance their money back!
and that means our tax dollars are going to be paying for kid rock’s
whoa.. went overboard..
i was about to rant on and on about how we’d be footing the bill and paying for kid rock in the end.
cause it will most probably rain
bring Bruce Springsteen
Why is the word “we” under hating kid rock?? Some of us like him? Relax, not every band you love is going to play every year.
Willow: You totally misinterpreted my comment. I was not suggesting the Coast should not publish opinions, and in particular I certainly was not suggesting the Coast should hold back comments on our politicians behaviour, the city’s agenda, etc. I did not say this, and the concert announcement from the Coast said nothing about politics or the city’s agenda.
All I am saying is that I think the Coast should just announce the concert first, and then let the discussion begin on whether it is going to be a good concert or not, rather than saying that Kid Rock sucks right in the title of the concert announcement!!!
i love my dog:
i don’t plan on liking ANY band they bring.
but kid rock is a hack and i shouldn’t have to leave the city so i don’t hear his bullshit.
i don’t think i was a-miss with my response to your comment, nayer, unless what you actually wrote was not what you meant. if so then i apologize for not reading between your lines – believe me i am equally guilty of not using the right word or phrase here and there.
BUT:
what you said was (i quote) “Post the announcement of the show and then readers can decide for themselves. I think The Coast should remove itself from the complaining and should not be editorializing”
however consider this:
what we have here is a city governement also playing concert promoter with your/our tax dollars which are likely going towards artist and promoter guarantees and/or promotion subsidies.
so the coast writers are fair game to call this a suck-giant-moose-shit choice when it is a sucks-giant-moose-shit choice right out of the gate. (especially if the city keep touting that they are going to bring in A-list artists, but don’t deliver. that money could be much better utilized)
believe me – the readers, Q104 fans and general maritime population will have ample opportunity to prove whether or not the coast comment was off the mark.
Willow: This concert announcement posted by Alison Lang says nothing about the issue of the city using our tax dollars to put on these concerts, it just takes a shot at the acts on the bill, and that is what I was complaining about. Otherwise, I am well aware of the issues related to the misuse of our tax dollars, and the Coast is a perfect forum for discussion and criticism of those issues, and I believe they have already written articles on this in the past. To my mind, those issues are separate from whether or not Kid Rock sucks.
At the end of the day, I have no interest in this concert and I would much rather see our tax dollars used for countless other purposes, so I support you in that.
I don’t believe any of these acts are worthy of tying up The Commons for as long as they will. I was always under the belief, and perhaps I’m wrong, that The Commons would be used for ‘Super Groups’ (Stones, McCartney etc) because upward of 80,000 people could attend.
I have serious doubts any of these shows will draw even 40,000 people and that is probably a genourous estimate. Citadell Hill would have been a better venue for these acts and the hill would provide much better sightlines to the stage than The Commons could ever hope to. Actually, The Commons is not a very good spot to ‘see’ a show.
Sure, people might wish some would not complain but when you have hot button issues such as tax dollars and temporary expropriation of public greenspace there will be detractors.
There is no way Skid Cock is going to draw even 20,000 people. If he does, there is no hope for people’s musical tastes.
Anyone else thinking of going camping that weekend far away from Halifax?
You can’t please everybody. I hated it when they brought that english bastard to Halifax, because I hate englishmen. Luckily for me, I’m a hundred kms away so I
won’t have to hear it.
“I hated it when they brought that english bastard to Halifax, because I hate englishmen”
Wow io, that’s about the most ignorant comment I’ve seen in a while. I can just imagine if you hate all “englishmen” your musical tastes must be very diverse…loser
What confuses me is why they don’t ask the public or do a poll of who we’d like to see. Kid Rock….come on. No thanks.
at least it’s not nickelback
at least it’s not nickeback
Maybe if we make enough noise they’ll think we don’t like them enough to pull a Celine Dion. Remember that? She thinks we hate her………wonder how she got that idea?
There are Kid Rock fans in Halifax. Whether or not the commons was a appropriate place for this concert is too late to speculate on now. However, we should also be aware that these are the only “Big” concerts this summer, due to the fact that Donald K. announced in Halifax and Moncton newspapers that there will be no Moncton Concerts this summer. This is all we’ve got.
ALSO: The Nova Scotia government is not paying a cent towards anything to do with Halifax Rocks. No taxpayers money being used. UNLIKE in PEI, where they’re spending over 3 million dollars in government funds to bring tourism there.
Us mops should be happy anyone travels to this armpit to play a concert.
Kid Rocks the planet.
3 Sheets To The Wind (What’s My Name) :
Ahh…
I’m here and it’s clear I’m gonna flow so yo black
Just get on up or yo get the bozak

A big fat booty’s what I’m grippin on

I also think it’s extremely inappropriate to compare one of the worst man-made natural disasters I’ve ever seen in my life time to a concert on the commons. Completely useless.
