Rick Rubin did an incredible thing by pulling Johnny Cash out from under his ’70s Love Boat guest spots and putting him back in the studio. This is a collection of outtakes, spirituals, greatest hits and collabora- tions. These five CDs are a document of 10 years of the unlike- ly pairing of hip-hop/rock producer Rubin and troubadour Cash. Rubin should receive a Nobel peace prize for busting Cash’s ass the last few years of his life and leaving us with so much more. This was important work.
