Weakerthans frontman John K. Samson will be passing through Halifax this Thursday, and he’s bringing his acoustic guitar. He’ll be strumming alongside his long-time “musical comrade” Jim Bryson in the serene setting of The Carleton. Samson says the unplugged session will feature some new tunes from both artists, but there will be plenty of Weakerthans classics in there, too. The Carleton should be a perfect venue for this kind of relaxed performance. “You get a more direct connection when the volume is turned down and the room is a little closer,” explains Samson. The two musicians, who’ve been playing together for nearly 15 years, both happen to be travelling to the east coast this week for different business-related reasons. Samson figures there’s nothing wrong with mixing business with a little pleasure. “We might as well play a couple shows while we’re out there.” Why not?
