I Still Love You
Daniel MacIvor
Playwrights Canada Press
Winner of the 2006 Governor General’s literary award for drama, I Still Love You is a collection of five of Daniel MacIvor’s best plays, covering a 15-year span from 1991 to 2006, all produced through his acclaimed and soon-to-be deceased theatre company, da da camera. In many ways this book is a fitting funeral—actually more like a great wake. In the introduction, MacIvor encourages us to “welcome death and embrace beginnings.” Tone is set in the first play Never Swim Alone, where two men compete with testosterone in a boxing-style set-up, refereed by a woman in a bathing suit. In the last play, A Beautiful View, MacIvor says farewell through two women in a relationship that just won’t let go.
