There are albums that have you reaching for the stop button before track three has finished, and there are albums that weld themselves into your portable music device. The debut LP from Hunter Valentine is one of the latter. Kiyomi’s sultry vocals smoulder while Laura’s forceful drum assault and Adrienne’s bassline provide the robust backbone of the addictive Impatient Romantic. At first glace, the band’s hyper-stylized look is off-putting, but the moment its catchy lead single “Typical” hits your ears it doesn’t matter. The Impatient Romantic’s hook-laden track list will have you humming these tunes for weeks.
