As Frank Magazine is reporting, HMV Spring Garden location is set to close. Staff are tight-lipped, but if it’s true, that makes a banner week for depressing music store news.

I’ve heard that H&M is interested in the space… just a rumour, but definitely a possibility.
Well, you can’t download clothes (but yes, you can order ’em online) so H&M stand a better chance of survival. I’m always surprised when I walk past the HMV in the mall and see people in there. People buy music? Really? Must be gifts for their parents or something.
Downloading music online is simple. You can now download one song at a time rather than an entire album, or you can just download the whole album. Usually it’s less expensive. We’re talking $7-$10 from the comfort of your home. Last time I bought a CD it cost me $15.
Why not download. Same with video games and DVDs. Except I prefer to have a video game on disc than download it. Not to mention it costs the same whether you download it or buy it at a store. I’m actually surprised that we still have music stores! The industry has pretty much taken a virtual route.
If the rumors are true and H&M will move into that space, that’s not really the greatest thing.
I don’t mind shopping at H&M but I’d never buy anything from the location in NS.
They have way better selection and better quality items at half the price in locations overseas.

H&M would be ok, but I am holding out for an Urban Outfitters.
I’d love an Urban Outfitters. If they did move in, they’d get a ton of business from the student crowd.
Good. HMV sucks. They are way over priced and their selection is shit. As far as HMV goes however, the Spring Garden location was one of the bigger better ones. I’m happy to order my albums directly from the artist website or get a digital copy from iTunes if that’s all that’s available. If HMV would stock stuff more people like, mayeb they would stay in business. THe MicMac store doesn’t even have an East Coast section anymore, it’s just filled with comic books and toys and crap. Why can’t I find an Al Tuck cd, Ten Years After, or Sadies album at these places? Really, one of the best bands this nation has to offer, The Sadies, do not occupy space at any HMV I have visited!
It’s kind of sad and kind of not. Sad because it’s cool that there is (was?) still a store you can browse around and pick up CDs in. Not sad because the people who run (ran?) that HMV location didn’t have two fucking clues what people actually wanted them to stock.
Go to TAZ, better selection, better prices. They stock new cd’s and vinyl as well as second hand copies. HMV was great up until about 10 years ago, they should have died then. Overpriced crap and too many Snooki biography’s, what a shock they’re going under. The music business isn’t dead, it just needs to evolve, its not my fathers market anymore. Stick with Taz, they’re local and seem to get better every year. His Masters Voice, RIP.
