Holster your lightsabers, folks. Atlantic Canada’s largest sci-fi festival, Hal-Con, is back and bigger than ever this year. Costume contests, guest speakers and gaming seminars are just a few things to geek out about this weekend. Demand for tickets has been higher than any previous year, so it’s no surprise that organizers anticipate many more convention-goers than last year’s 6,400.
The venue itself is expanding. In the past, the event has been held solely inside the World Trade and Convention Centre, but this year they’ll spill into the Scotiabank Metro Centre.
Headlining guest this year will be Enver Gjokaj, an American actor most famous for his role in the sci-fi TV series Dollhouse and Marvel’s Agent Carter.
The event is a safe place to express your inner nerd, ridicule-free. The Hal-Con team values equality, opportunity and freedom of self-expression with their strict no-tolerance policy towards harassment, sexism or bullying. It’s the best of “a comic con and a Maritime kitchen party.”
Want to go? Most tickets are sold out, but you can still grab Friday tickets at the Boardroom Cafe, or try your luck using the Force/Kijiji. —Allie Sweeting
