Montreal post-punk power-noise trio Black Feelings focuses its
energy on establishing and expanding a sense of volume, both sound and
space, in their music. At this point at least, they’re little concerned
with variation in melody and tone. Drummer-vocalist Owain Lawson’s
voice lacks character other than he’s held at a distance in the mix.
Guitarist-keyboardist Kyle Fostner’s contributions peek out from the
highest peaks of the range, while bassist Brian Mitchell owns the only
clear frequency. With a little more nuance and separation more
listeners may gravitate to this gravitas, and place Black Feelings in
rank with Sons of Freedom, sianspheric and Halifax’s own on-hiatus
roomdoom.
