Look – every so often, one of the ten people who read this blog regularly are like “Why are you so bitchy about the Backstreet Boys/Scott Stapp/David Usher/other 90s relics coming through town, you fucking cynical asshole” and yeah, you know what? It’s true. They’re easy targets. It’d be a lot edgier to rag on Cousins or Tanya Davis or some other up-and-comer that everyone loves, right?
Here goes. The debut of the new, “edgy” Scene and Heard, for you, my tens of readers.

You rock my fucking world Lang
You don’t want the world to see you because you don’t think that they’d understand.
Everyone is welcome to their opinion, but I don’t understand why people need to go so far out of their way to slag these bands in the papers? If you hate them, then don’t write about them, just post the concert listing and leave it at that, and write articles about musicians and bands that you like and try to turn people on to them. I don’t like the Goo Goos either, but I could give a fuck if they play in Halifax, they can go right ahead and I am sure lots of people will go and enjoy the show, and why should I give a shit? Why do people have to complain so much, just ignore it!
We complain because current, contemporary bands are passing us by and there’s a constant onslaught of washed-up cash-grabbing 90s bands who haven’t been relevant or produced a single in a decade coming to town, that’s why. This should not be a second-run, also-ran town, but it is, and it’s our job to point out how embarrassing that is.

Can you please clarify what you mean by “relevant”? Is it based soley on whether or not you have recently put out an album?
If your job is to point out that a lot of bands you don’t like come to our city, then I think you need a new job. Wouldn’t it be much more useful to point out what you think is good, “relevant” music as opposed to wasting time slagging these older bands? At the end of the day, there are always going to be people who want to see these older bands that you hate, if for nothing else but nostalgia, so they will continue to come here.
I would think the better approach if you want to attract more contemporary bands that you like is to write about them and promote the shit out of them so that more people in Halifax start listening to them. Then there will be more of a reason for them to come here. Create some demand for it by word of mouth.

‘shot’? what shot are they asking for? they play music for a living and thats what theyre doing; are they supposed to stop once they’re out of the mainstream? tone down there big rig.
