Local punk band Gone Drinkin’ are generously releasing their newly recorded (but yet to be mastered) album, Destructive Mind, one track at a time on their MySpace page, so you can eagerly anticipate their early February album release show. They just posted the first of many songs, “Missing the Point”. “Missing the Point” is about drugs and this ‘no future’ attitude that modern punks have, but it only applied to people in England in the 80s,” explains Matty No Class (guitar, vocals). “It is misinterpreted because they weren’t saying, ‘yeah, this is awesome, we can’t have careers and provide for ourselves and our families, we’d rather just get fucked up and die young.’ They were mad about it, and they wanted opportunities. Punks these days that destroy themselves with drugs and poison the scene with cocaine are, as we say, missing the point of it all. If punk destroys you, you’re not living it like you should. It should be a positive thing. Community, creative outlets, something to enrich your life, not make it worse.”
“Thematically, we deal with your standard punk themes, although we are not very political outside of being outspokenly anti-racist, which is what our song “Summer Camp 88″ is about,” Matty says. “Which we re-recorded for the album, it was on our first release, a split 7inch with The Adhesives.”
The band is understandably eager to release this new album and take it on the road, with an Ontario and Quebec in the works for the summer. “We can’t wait to get this album out and show everyone what we’re really capable of, since we don’t feel our 7inch split was a good portrait of the band’s capabilities,” says Matty. “And, we can’t wait to tour, since that’s the best part of playing in a band.”
