Nothing says early September like costumed actors on Argyle Street
trying to lure you into darkened theatres, equipped only with charm and
lovingly designed flyers. It’s no cult: it’s the Atlantic Fringe
Festival
, which runs from September 3 to 13 at five venues around
town.

There are over 25 productions this year—you’ve got your comedies
and dramas, your brave solo monologues, a few musicals and dance
numbers. Dark comedy Jill and Jack, starring Lisa Rose
Snow
and Ian Mullan, is the first original play by
Trrrash Productions, who recently wowed with its Pride
production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. DaPoPo and
Metamorphic Theatre join forces for What about Luv?, a
musical farce about love and deceit, set on a New York bridge. Dylan
Edward
‘s heavy metal musical The Overlord looks like it has
the potential to rock you off the planet.

For a more interactive experience, there’s CHUG, contemporary
dance performed in and around the busy Economy Shoe Shop.
Normally this would be reason for concern, except when it’s SINS (Sometime in Nova Scotia), a collective of dancers that includes
Jacinte Armstrong, Susanne Chui and Sara Coffin.

prices going.
