There are many great shows that we’re feelin’ this weekend. Alas, Listings Mom and Listings Pop are in town all the way from the hood in Southern Ontario and thus our only jam will be tonight at the Lion’s Head Tavern singing karaoke with Laurie the Guy. (Listings Pop got the love jones for Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen.” ) But we hope that you people can still bounce to one or all of the following events. On Friday there’s another round of the 2008 DJ Olympics at The Palace. We’ve been informed that the category is no longer “Rock, ’80’s and Mashups” but is, in fact, “Club Night.” We’re not really sure what that means but are hoping some intrepid turntablist will incorporate multiple remixes of Brick and Lace’s “Love Is Wicked.” That song is fuckin’ hype. It’s at 10pm and it’ll cost you five bones. Alternatively you can pop by the Marquee for the Stop Summer Spectacle Show Spectacular led by the hardest working man in show biz-nass, Rich Aucoin, and his best mates. It’s also 10pm and five bucks. Saturday night ya’ll should get the funk back to the Marquee for Toronto’s God Made Me Funky supporting another DJ with mad skillz, Roc Raida, who, like Jennifer Lopez, knows where he came from (from tha Bronx!) It’s $10 in advance, $13 at the door. And Sunday you’ve got the lovely and quirky Wind Whistles all the way from Van City. I’m not sure of the time or the price, but knowing Gus’s it’ll be after 9pm and will leave you enough change for a fist of draft. Aight ya’ll, we’re out. Have fun.
