We reported a couple weeks back on the welcome resurrection of Wolfville’s Atlantic Theatre Festival, a summer destination event that was shuttered two years ago for financial reasons. The company announced its season this week, and it’s gonna be a truncated—but hilarious—one. Beloved comic romp Noises Off will open July 21 and run through to September 3, directed by Nigel Bennett (no, sir, you will never not been known as the “It’s not oatmeal!” guy). Over the summer ATF will also present three readings of revered comic works by Mark Twain, Stephen Leacock and Jerome K. Jerome (Three Men in a Boat).
And in other theatre news, a pair of one-off fundraisers happen this weekend. The Prague-bound Le Theatre de Boheme presents No Exit on Friday, May 26, at the Khyber at 8pm ($15, 425-6427), while Angels and Heroes presents a choose-your-own-adventure version of their Little Red Riding Hood on Sunday, May 28, at 2pm in the DANSpace (1531 Grafton) for $5. As a member of the audience, you get to entertain your secret megalomania by helping to direct the action. … You only have a few more chances to not cry—Evita closes on Sunday.

The Nova Scotia Film Development Corporation presents a free screening of a film you didn’t pay for when it was here briefly last fall: The River King, starring Ed Burns as a detective investigating the death of a young boy, was shot in Halifax and the Valley, and screens at The Oxford on May 31 at 7pm. … Got a 60-second idea that would look great in black and white with no sound? The deadline to apply for AFCOOP’s One Minute Film scholarships is Friday at 5pm, so we hope you picked the paper up early. Application form at afcoop.ca. … Speaking of films and deadlines, the Atlantic Film Festival has a couple looming. June 2 is the last day for screenwriters to apply for the newly retitled Inspired Scripts (formerly Scripts Out Loud) program, which offers four screenwriters a chance to bang their first draft into shape throughout the summer, culminating in a public reading during the festival in September. For people with completed films, you have until June 9 to submit, or June 30 if you still need to shoot your credits sequence or something, though your entry fee goes up five bucks.
