When I left the theatre after seeing Dedicated to the Revolutions, I wondered if what I’d just seen was actually theatre at all. The “play” began with an intense Jenga game that went on until one of the actors accidentally provoked gravity. Using all manner of exploration from white boards to Flight of the Condors-esque tunes, the show touched on myriad subjects loosely based around seven scientific revolutions spanning the creation of the Gutenberg Bible to the dawning of the information age. The six quirky performers answered questions from a prescribed sheet, skipped rope, demonstrated the principles of the internet using tin can phones and illustrated just how revolutionary artificial light is. When the show was over, I felt as if I’d spent the evening with some intelligent and curious (in both senses) acquaintances. So, while perhaps not theatre in the traditional sense, Dedicated to the Revolutions is an interesting, thought-provoking and entertaining 75 minutes.
