His films are brilliant and rare and Terrence Malick’s 1978 drama is the best example of what he does best: exquisitely shot landscapes, where the human drama is but a part of the world depicted. In this case, a love triangle between early 20th-century itinerant workers (Richard Gere, Brooke Adams) and a wealthy landowner (Sam Shepard).
