Life exists elsewhere in the universe, and it’s a big fan of the Paranormal Activity movies, in the new alien abduction horror flick Dark Skies. A modern family of Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton and a couple of bratty kids already has enough financial and familial stresses to handle before sensing a disturbing presence pranking their house. After setting up some cameras, they soon discover a malevolent group of sneaky interstellar lifeforms are the ones frigging with their stuff. There’s some weight in an emotionally struggling family reclaiming their home and coming together against an invading threat. Likewise, some of the aliens’ bitchy hijinks are genuinely creepy. Shame then that the script’s structural problems sputter out all that tension by the time we’re learning a history lesson on “The Greys” from J. K. Simmons. Compared to high-pressure nose bleeds and suicidal birds, Dark Skies can’t deliver much of a climax.
