“Where there is love, there is hope in Don Hannah’s brilliant play,” says Margot Dionne, the director of DalTheatre’s opening production for the season. While We’re Young, a Canadian written play yet to be performed in Halifax, covers six generations of youth transitioning into adulthood. With war as a backdrop (starting in 1870, the play covers four of them, plus 9/11) DalTheatre will bring life to stories of love, loss and growth in this ensemble piece perfect for showing off the talent within their company. While We’re Young kicks off the 2011/2012 season, which is also known under the moniker The Marriage of True Minds, borrowing from Shakespeare to connect all four plays. (Also on stage this season will be Blood Wedding, La Ronde and Lady Windermere.) “They look at young people grappling with relationships,” says Roberta Barker, chair of Dalhousie’s theatre department. “And offer very different answers to the question of whether an ideal relation is possible, or even desirable.”
