Cuff the Duke
Sidelines of the City
Hardwood Records
Are the fellas in Cuff the Duke heartthrobs yet? They should be, based on the sound of Sidelines of the City alone. These are sensitive songs, and not in that pejorative sense, either. “Remember the Good Times” pays homage to a lost friend: “still can’t believe that you passed away.” “Rossland Square” revisits the band’s hometown of Oshawa, where decay and development occur together. And when Wayne Petti repeats, “Want you to know that I’m here for you” on “Failure to Some” as Dale Murray picks up a solo, well, hearts beat a little faster. Check out their opening slot for Blue Rodeo next

February.
