If Montreal’s Creature doesn’t make you dance in your American Apparel boy briefs, check your pulse, or consult the handy 12-step guide in the liner. Like a whiplash-speed K-tel’s Greatest Hits, the band mixes live instruments with electronics into a jumble of iconic beats and melodies from old-school rap, hip-hop and new wave with punchy lyrics. “Who’s Hot, Who’s Not” gives a De La Soul-like tip of the hat to pioneering 1970s MCs. “Brigitte Bardot” resurrects The Waitresses and Siouxsie; “Don’t Be Afraid” is as tight as the B52s’ beehives. There’s nothing really new here, but you’re at a hot dance party. Do you really care?
