An unseen part of Halifax is getting its big reveal. Sunday Comedy with Bill Wood (of Picnicface fame) is, for one night only, switching things up in favour of an evening of flourishes and sleights-of-hand. For the first time, the annual showcase of the Conjurers’ Court, the Halifax chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, will take place at The Company House. Wood, a member himself, is hosting the event. The format from his usual Sunday shows will remain, with the jovial host interviewing each performer prior to his or her act, employing what he calls the “perfect, peppery amount of awkwardness” to draw laughs. Though the magic scene in Halifax is a modest one, Wood assures that this is an event not to be missed: “It’ll be like a YouTube video where you’re let into someone’s secret life, but instead of being on the internet, this is real.” –Sandi Rankaduwa
