Colbie Caillat isn’t exactly a household name, but the moment her single “Bubbly” flows from your speakers, you’ll recognize the Joni Mitchell-meets-Jack Johnson sound. As you dip deeper into Coco, elements of John Mayer will begin to present themselves. Caillat was one of the first artists discovered on MySpace and offered a major label contract. While expectations weren’t overly high, Caillat manages to easily outpace them. Coco doesn’t entirely live up to that warm summery vibe set by “Bubbly,” but it’s an enjoyable listen. The warm husky tones of her voice help tracks like “Tied Down” and “Midnight Bottle” reach their full potential.
