“I think it’s quite different,” says Christina Martin of her new album, I Can Too, produced by Dale Murray. “It’s got way more punch rhythmically; sonically, it’s 10 steps forward for both of us, I think. That may just be because I had been talking about it for so long, and we had more experience in the studio and I was able to ask for what I wanted.” Martin and Murray recorded the album in the Dartmouth studio Murray runs with his brother Brian, wrapping up in February with an eye on release for September. The guests are high-profile—Greg Keelor and Wayne Petti of Cuff the Duke, which is also Murray’s day job—but minimal. “We played all the instruments except drums and bass,” says Martin. She’ll preview some of the songs this weekend at a show shared with Ryan MacGrath, who’s also working on a new LP. “There’s a strong theme of coming into one’s own,” says Martin. “The title track is ‘I Can Too’—it’s a theme of perseverance and figuring out what you want.”
