It’s been an insane year for Dartmouth’s Cam Smith. By dropping bar-setting videos for “Turbo” and “Mad Crack” in advance of self-produced party album Cannon, he has primed us for his HPX takeover. “Rap is one of the hardest genres for someone to stand out in, so you have to get creative and think outside the box,” he says, alluding to his strong social media presence. “I think the genre being overcrowded actually makes people shine.” As such, Smith has taken the opportunity to perform with several artists and bands during HPX, including many who appear on Cannon and who also keep his party hyped.
“You have to be conscious of everything, at any moment,” Smith says of pressures in the rap game. “Being in that competitive mind set, you have to know yourself and make amazing music. Oh, and swag.”
