The Halifax Regional Municipality is seeking nominations for the next Poet Laureate, a two-year term beginning in 2016: “The Poet Laureate will be a resident poet, storyteller or spoken word artist who has achieved excellence amongst his or her peers and whose body of work demonstrates connection with and relevance to our citizens.” Duties include civic participation and engaging in local literary and social culture, “As an advocate for poetry, language and the arts, the Poet Laureate attends events across the region to promote and attract people to the literary world.” There is a stipend. Past Poet Laureates include El Jones, Tanya Davis and Shauntay Grant.
