Brandi Disterheft means business. The Vancouver-born, bass-toting, Juno-winning, jazz goddess has recently moved to what she calls the “mecca for jazz music,” New York, to write, play and listen to music and to learn from renowned double-bassist Ron Carter. She’s been keeping ultra-busy touring internationally, playing the jazz-festival scene and currently, working on a new album that’ll be recorded this spring. Coming to Halifax for In the Dead of Winter means she’ll be reunited with her band, which is based out of Toronto. “I’m really looking forward to shedding through new material and creating some new music,” and eating oysters of course, she says. “It’s a dream because we’re not boxed into the jazz market, it’s exciting, it’ll be a different audience.” Check out this ladies’ night kick-off to your favourite winter picker-upper.
