The Halifax theatre scene truly rocked in 2010, so it was with Herculean effort that I boiled it down to my ten favourite plays.
10. The Fantasticks (Dartmouth Players): And also deserving mention on the amateur theatre scene—The Cover of Life (DP), Busybody (Bedford Players) and How It Works (TAG)
9. Fall in Paris (Eastern Front): A romantic tour of Paris led by characters you could care about.
8. The Comedy of Errors (Dalhousie): Beautifully staged and filled with youthful energy. Also on the university scene, kudos to King’s for great productions like Equus and Faith Healer.
7. Julius Caesar (DaPoPo): A powerful, gender-bending take on the classic tale.
6. Ed’s Story: Beautiful, moving verbatim theatre at The Fringe.
5. An Evening of Grand Guignol (Taboo Theatre): Unusual, gory good fun.
4. Heroine, Karen Bassett’s rip-roaring tale of female pirates, AND The Blue Light (DMV): Another brilliant exploration of a role-defying woman.
3. Woman and Scarecrow (LunaSea): A tragic Irish story, beautifully acted.
2. Fat Pig: One of three great plays, including The Obedients and The Asshole Monologues, at The Sex Festival.
1. 5 Easy Steps to the End of the World (Zuppa): Gorgeous and haunting. A true high point.

One glaring omission.
Which one? I have some I’d like to add like A Rescue Demonstration, Logan and I and Blackbird.
Oops – Woman and Scarecrow, not Scarecrow and Woman
