Astonishing X-Men Volume 1 HC
Joss Whedon
Marvel
If Buffy creator Joss Whedon had found the time to write and direct X-Men 3, it may have been a better movie. Instead, he wrote a new X-title (the first 12 issues collected in this handsome, hardcover edition), whose first story arc—a mutant “cure” is engineered— inspired the recent cinematic version of Marvel’s mutant heroes. Under Whedon’s thumb, the X-Men have never been better. He takes the character development from Grant Morrison’s recent stint, remembers the rich history of Chris Claremont’s 1980s run, and mixes them with his own brilliant voice. And he makes Kitty Pryde the star. Has Ellen Page read this? There may be plot points in here for X-Men 4.
