Birds are racist and rejected, frogs are pathetic and rude, an anteater looks for a job, dogs are stupid and snakes need your help desperately in Dumontier and Farber’s beautifully painted and hand-lettered book. My main complaint is that it wasn’t 1,000 pages longer, I could have spent all day happily flipping and reading what varied missives animals deem worthy of print. Lists, Penthouse forum letters, classic poems, cries for help, apologies, saucy graffiti, a badger’s will–it all gets a fair representation in the world of things a creature may scrawl with a Sharpie. At one point I got a little misty. It would make a perfect coffee table book if you don’t mind spewing coffee out of your nose from laughing/crying.
