Moor Mother, the Afrofuturist, sonic shape-shifting MC and poet, has long been a favourite of EVERYSEEKER Festival: The artist first came to the annual Halifax event back in 2017, when she was still scaling the rock face of the come-up. These days, she’s arguably at the mountaintop: The sort of known entity that music nerds obsess over, her experimental-verging-on-esoteric music breathlessly discussed by seminal music publication Pitchfork and in every poetry nerd group chat.
Her latest project, 700 Bliss—a duo with fellow Philly scene mainstay DJ Haram—was included in Pitchfork’s Best New Music roundup this week, with its debut record, Nothing to Declare, netting an impressive 8.3 out of 10 review. Basically, if you didn’t know who Moor Mother was as of yet, it’s only a matter of time until it’s impossible-to-avoid knowledge. (Consider this a very good thing).
And, just in time to ride the buzz, 700 Bliss sees Moor Mother coming back to EVERYSEEKER this Friday, June 10, with DJ Haram in tow. A hidden gem on the festival programming, you’d be forgiven for not realizing it was *the* 700 Bliss coming to town when you saw an EVERYSEEKER poster around town recently.
Heart-forward, politically minded and bone-shaking, 700 Bliss will get you vibing as it takes over The Khyber Centre For The Arts (1880 Hollis Street). Sharing the bill with New Chance and TUSH, it’s the sort of third-eye-opening dance floor you need right now.
